Exporting map data for MapShots tech support
Using EASi Suite's MapShots XML hierarchy export e-mail option
is the preferred way to send map data to MapShots for tech
support.
Perform the following steps to export your data:
- You may select a business, farm or field from the Fields
explorer tree. Normally, sending a 'field hierarchy w/ layers'
is sufficient for us to troubleshoot your problem.
- Select the Export command from the Fields toolbar.
- Select '___ hierarchy w/ layers' from the MapShots E-mail
category. You may need to click the + with your mouse to
expand the tree first.
- Select the 'Finish' command to e-mail the field hierarchy
file.
- On the E-mail dialog that appears, complete the following
information:
- Send Account: Customer.
- From: Your e-mail address.
- To: a valid MapShots e-mail address, such as support.
- Subject: File export.
- Description: Please enter a description so we know
what to look for.
- Click the OK command to send the e-mail containing your
data.

TIGER maps don't display?
If you are not able to display TIGER data, please review
the following checklist:
- There must be a "Tiger" folder someplace on your machine
or the network.
- This Tiger folder must be pointed to by a registry setting.
You can check that the registry setting is right by running
the EASi Suite Registry Keys program from the Start | All
Programs | MapShots program group.
- Within the Tiger folder, there will be a TGRssccc folder
for each county that you need to display. The ss is
the two digit state ISO code, and the ccc is the three digit
ISO county code within the state.
- Within the Tiger folder, there will be a TGRssccc.mps
FILE for each county that you need to display.
EASi Suite reads all of the .mps files within the Tiger
folder, and that is where it gets the list of Tiger files
that can be displayed.
- Each .mps fiile in that Tiger folder has an entry that
points to where the corresponding TGRssccc folder is located.
So, in theory, it is possible fo have a Tiger folder with
only .mps files, and have those .mps files point to some
exotic location for the TGRssccc folder... like maybe a
network drive or something.
So, things to check:
- Is your registry setting pointing to the Tiger folder?
- Are there .mps files in that folder?
- Are those files pointing to a location that is possibly
a valid location, but at which the good tiger files are
no longer located? You can open an .mps file with
NotePad, and note the second line that points to the TGRssccc
folder.
- Inside the TGRssccc file, are there .shp, .shx, and .dbf
files?

Playing EASi Suite tutorial videos
We produce our tutorial videos in two formats, .avi and Flash.
The .avi format is used for the videos we include on the CD's
and the Flash format is used for the videos we post on our
web site.
Our preference for an .avi video player is the Camtasia Player.
If you haven't already, you can install the Camtasia Player
directly from the EASi Suite CD.
Windows Media Player will play the .avi videos that are on
the CD, as long as you have previously installed the EASi
Suite software on the same computer. This is because EASi
Suite installs a required video codec used to play the .avi
files.
The most common complaint when playing the videos with Windows
Media Player is poor picture quality. There are several steps
you can take to increase the quality of the video.
- Go to the View menu and run Windows Media Player in Full
Mode.
- Maximize the Windows Media Player window
- Set the Zoom level to 100%.
- Press Alt-Enter to toggle Full Screen mode.
Installing the Camtasia Player will eliminate the above hassle.

Obtaining screen captures of EASi Suite
We recommend the use of the screen capture utility SnagIt.
We use it everyday ourselves.
